North Dakota State Fair Turns a Great. Big. Fifty.

Assuming you’re a good North Dakotan (Which you must be, because that’s the only kind there is. Are we right? High five us!), you already know that the North Dakota State Fair is now open for business. It’s also the Fair’s 50th anniversary, which makes this a standout year for both the Fair and KK BOLD, as we continue our multi-year partnership as the Fair’s marketing agency.

Each year, KK BOLD helps NDSF pick a new look for their website (ndstatefair.com), and we also help them in the creation and distribution of their marketing materials. KK BOLD works with NDSF to do more than just traditional marketing like TV, print and radio. We create promotions to raise awareness and generate excitement about the Fair. Social media becomes an increasingly larger component of our marketing efforts each year, and this year saw its biggest usage to date. Three examples of that are:

  • A Miranda Lambert VIP promotion that included two tickets to the concert, two meet-and-greet passes and a hotel room. We used Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for promotion for ten days. We had 16,618 views of Miranda’s video, 2,010 people liked the promotion post, 303 people shared it and 4,608 people entered the contest.
  • For the Fair’s 50th anniversary, we helped them give away a pair of showpasses for the very first time as a social media promotion. We promoted the post via Twitter and Facebook for five days. The post on July 9th had 1,234 likes, 121 shares and 2,883 participants in the contest.
  • As we do every year, we worked with entertainers to help boost their promotions. We helped with a “Sing with Keith Urban” promotion which was sponsored by KMOT. You could upload a video singing to KMOT’s Facebook page or go to one of two karaoke nights at the Corral Bar and the Blind Duck. KMOT had hundreds of contestants participate. Five winners were chosen and the lucky lady that gets to sing “We Were Us” with Keith Urban on stage will be announced this week. KK BOLD helped to co-promote the contest via the NDSF social media platforms. We have had over 13,360 views of the Keith Urban video post since Monday, July 13.

In addition, some of the other new marketing materials we got to try out this year included creating the banner that was used for the State Fair Grandstand. We also got to design wraps that were used on the entrance doors at the Dakota Square Mall in Minot. You can see these and other marketing materials created by KK BOLD at the end of this story. We were really pleased with the new look and overall theme of the campaign, helping the North Dakota State Fair to celebrate their 50th anniversary in style.

It’s been a great opening weekend so far, and there are still three more days to stop out and have some great big fun at the North Dakota State Fair. If you haven’t already, like or follow the North Dakota State Fair on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat for updates throughout the week on everything that’s going on. From KK BOLD to NDSF, a very happy 50th anniversary and thanks for another successful year of marketing with us.
