Camouflage — It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Starting from a young age, quite a few of us were taught the importance of blending in. Of not rocking the boat. Of not sticking our necks out.

As we grew older, many of us took those lessons to heart. We blended in. We didn’t rock the boat. We didn’t stick our necks out.

Eventually, many of us ended up in the business world. A few of us even became owners, managers and marketing directors. And when it came time to develop and implement a marketing strategy for our businesses, we decided to blend in. To not rock the boat. To not stick our necks out.

And then we wondered why customers weren’t beating a path to our door.

It turns out it was because we blended in. Because we didn’t rock the boat. Because we didn’t stick our necks out. It was because people didn’t know we existed and didn’t know what we had to offer them.

Then a few of us realized what had to be done for our businesses to be successful.

We stood out.

We rocked the boat.

We stuck our necks out.

And then people took notice.

And some of them even became customers.

And we all lived happily ever after.
